  16. <p>GM's Saturn, once scorned, gets high marks for quality
  17. </p>
  18. <p>    For most of its bumpy, 10-year history, General Motors'
  19. Saturn project was derided by auto-industry critics as a $5
  20. billion ugly duckling -- an experimental, money-losing attempt
  21. to match the value and quality of import models. To ensure
  22. customer satisfaction, Saturn built cars at its all-new plant in
  23. Spring Hill, Tenn., with the crawly pace of a craft shop. It also
  24. gained something of a quirky reputation for recalling them at
  25. the tiniest hitch.

  27. <p>    Saturn's diligence has finally paid off handsomely with a
  28. third-place finish in J.D. Power's highly regarded annual survey
  29. of car customer satisfaction. Not only was that the highest
  30. ranking achieved by any U.S. make in the respected survey, but
  31. at an average price of $12,500, Saturn was alone among luxury
  32. favorites such as Lexus, Infiniti and Acura, all with price tags
  33. three times as high.
